Shade and Tree Worship

Apart from creating places within spaces, allowing activities to anchor themselves and facilitating leisure at the community level, many trees also provide several ecological and medicinal benefits. In the Indian culture, often resulting from these benefits that trees provide, they are worshipped and are seen to hold powerful religious associations.

In such scenarios, the shade provided by these trees enhances the services they provide, as well as facilitates acts of worship.

An example of this is the peepal tree across the Indian subcontinent. While It provides many health benefits, the tree is commonly worshipped by several communities and is seen as symbolic of historical, spiritual and religious values.
